LYFORD CAY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
The school was founded in 1962 by E.P.Taylor for children of employees and nearby residents in his grand property venture on the western side of Nassau. The initial enrollment was just 9 students and 2 teachers.
The school has dramatically changed over the years, but there is one thing that has remained constant - the color of the student uniforms. The bright turquoise and gold trim is no accident. E.P.Taylor selected the uniforms himself, modeled after the racing colors of his thoroughbred stud farm, home to his famous Thoroughbred racehorse Northern Dancer, one of the most influential sires in Thoroughbred history.
By 1981 the number of teachers matched the initial number of students (nine) and by then there were 147 students enrolled. The school undertook one of it's biggest developments in 1993/4 when it opened up the new Early Learning Center followed by an expansion to the Elementary school.
Between the years of 1994-97, the school increased it student body from 100 to over 200; the grade levels went from Nursery-Grade 6 to Grade 9; and the staff numbers expanded from 16 to 30.
Today LCIS boasts a staff of 44 full time teachers, 34 support staff, and 345 students enrolled in Grades ELC - 12.
It received International School accreditation in 1998 and work was completed on the new Secondary School building in 2003.
There have been may famous visitors to the school over the years, including:
